“‘My work is loving the world.’ Mary Oliver captured the calling of the minister in that opening line from her poem, ‘Messenger.’ What a privilege to minister to a congregation. To be their pastor, spiritual leader, their steward. And the congregants come. There, sitting in the pew, is the person who is lonely, grieving, in pain. Over there is the elderly person, sick, confused, afraid of death. And there, in the last row of the sanctuary, is the person who is joyful, openhearted, at one with God. What a privilege, as well as responsibility, to love them all, to model love for them, to be a good steward. I invite you to come participate in this coaching partnership with me. Together our work is loving the world in more profound and inspiring ways.”
I see my role as being in support of you, the minister, becoming a more accomplished, energized and influential speaker.
Robert Fish has dedicated his career to helping people be more successful through improved communication skills.
Most recently, from 2005 to 2009, he was on the faculty of the Unity Institute, teaching public speaking and other speech communication classes to ministerial students. He also coached students in preparation for their chapel services where they presented twenty minute sermons. Robert provided one-on-one coaching and group critique/feedback sessions.
He also hosted storytelling evenings (called “Dr. Fish’s Story Wheel”) which were wildly popular and filled with student participation. Through the classes and coaching and storytelling, he has inspired his students to find their voice. He encouraged them to courageously bring forth their spirit through words and empowered them to develop their own unique style. Most of all, Robert believes that every student has remarkable gifts to share. He helped them to better their best.
Prior to that, Robert was the spiritual leader of the Unity Church of Fremont, California, for three and a half years.
From earning a Ph.D. in Speech Communications, to teaching speech at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, to coaching engineers and management at Lockheed Missiles & Space Co., to teaching the PowerSpeaking method of public speaking in the corporate arena, he has honed his skills to bring out the best in people when success in speaking makes a difference.
Along the way, he has been a professional speaker and storyteller, even a street performer, learning firsthand how to hold the attention of an audience and persuading them to his point of view.
Now Robert is offering individual coaching sessions for ministers who want to improve their effectiveness at developing and delivering their Sunday sermons.
Imagine yourself being clearer, more focused, more cogent, more concise, more articulate, more entertaining, more compelling, more memorable, more confident – in a word, more inspirational.
You can work with Robert from anywhere in the world – he conducts his coaching via Skype, so you can rehearse a talk and get feedback on your delivery as well as content.
